Cougar 700M laser gaming mouse

Cougar 700M

Ugly but effective.

Finding the right mouse for your mitts can be an arduous task, as we’re not all clones with identically sized palms. The Cougar 700M aims to solve this problem with its adjustable palm wrest. A small screw at the base increases or decreases the wrest height, while a second wrest of slightly smaller size can be swapped out for the default component. It doesn’t go quite as far as some adjustable mice though, as there’s no way to change the position of the thumb wrest.

It’s incredibly light out of the box, thanks to the aluminium frame and plastic components, but four weights are included to bulk it out for those who prefer a meatier response to their movements. Tucked away inside is an ADNS-9800 laser sensor, which cranks all the way up to a ludicrous 8200 dpi, far too high for most gamers. There’s also 512KB of onboard memory for storing pro les, while eight buttons delivers plenty of macro options. We especially like the sniper button mounted under the thumb, which dynamically alters the DPI for those crucial slow shots.

In use we found the mouse very comfortable, with accurate tracking and pleasant feedback from the main left/right buttons. The software was very easy to setup, albeit not the most attractive on the eye. The 700M delivers all of the features expected from a premium priced mouse, even if it’s not quite as adjustable as the likes of Thermaltake’s Level 10. BENNETT RING

The Cougar 700M might look awkward, but it’s one of the most comfortable ergonomic mice on the market.
