204. There’s an email in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag between Abstergo and Watch Dog’s Blume Corporation suggesting the two games exist in the same world.

205. Dissidia Final Fantasy was originally going to be a Kingdom Hearts game, but Disney didn’t like the idea of its characters fighting.

206. There’s a hidden Minecraft cave in Borderlands 2 filled with Creepers.

207. Four months after it had been released there had been 1.1 trillion shots fired in Call Of Duty: Black Ops’ multiplayer.

208. In 24 hours, more people were killed in COD: Black Ops than the total population of the US.

209. There were 28,337,269 headshots.

210. Enough explosive crossbow bolts were fired to run the length of the Great Wall Of China.

211. One of the first people to play a WIP (Work In Progress) build of Deus Ex was Valve’s Gabe Newell. He criticised its dull missions and poor upgrades, forcing the team to rethink much of the game.

216. In inFamous: Second Son, Delsin’s ringtone is the Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time’s theme.

217. In Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, you can use the in-game phone to call Konami’s helpline where you will be told you are, “beyond even our help.”

218. LittleBigPlanet was delayed after it was discovered a song on the soundtrack contained lyrics that quoted from The Qur’an. The translated line said,”Every soul shall have the taste of death. All that is on Earth will perish,” and was removed shortly after.

219. In Spider-Man on PS2, a cheat code lets you play as Mary Jane, leading to a self-smooch situation when ‘Spider-Man’ and Mary Jane meet at the end.

220. In Fallout 3, the Fat Man RPG nuke was renamed in Japan as it took the title from the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The bell that rings when it reloads is actually the Bethesda Studios lunch bell.

221. There’s a door in Fallout 3 that doesn’t go anywhere. It just opens on to wall with ‘F*ck You’ painted on it.

222. Within a month of launch, PS4 accounted for 10% of all Twitch streams. A month later it was 20%.

223. There’s a hidden weapon in Red Faction: Armageddon called Mr Toots, a unicorn that farts rainbows.

224. There’s a hidden kill in Hitman: Absolution where shooting all the vultures in a level causes an ice cream truck to run your target over. Director Tore Blystad claims he was told about it but never found it before the game’s release in 2012.

225. PS4’s launch caused a staggering 90% growth in PS Plus subscriptions.

226. Chell’s screams in Portal are simply reused from female Half-Life 2 NPCs.

227. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 99 contains the pilot episode of South Park as a hidden and inaccessible video file.

228. The venom of the Brazilian wandering spider used by The Fear to poison Snake has an effect not mentioned in the game: uncontrollable erections.

229. In Ratchet & Clank, you can inflate the breasts of the hoverboard race host by performing flips.

230. Two developers started working on different Saints Row dubstep guns in secret before they found out about each other and merged their efforts.

245. Trying to leave the mansion in Resident Evil 5’s Lost In Nightmares DLC three times lets you play the add-on with the original game’s fixed cameras.

246. In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Vader’s apprentice Starkiller took his title from Luke Skywalker’s name in the original drafts of Star Wars.

251. Seymour, Fry’s fossilised dog in Futurama, makes an appearance in Fallout: New Vegas’ DLC, Lonesome Road.

252. MGS4 currently holds the world record for the longest single cutscene: 71 minutes.

253. Everyone you kill in Assassin’s Creed is a real person and their time and place of death matches historical records.

254. Enough flight time has been logged in Battlefield 4 to earn 90,000 pilot licences.

255. Christopher Randolph, the voice of Octacon, originally went for Snake’s part but got the other role because he looked like the character’s concept art.

256. The first letters of each chapter name in Dead Space spell out ‘N.I.C.O.L.E.I.S.D.E.A.D.’, referencing the twist that Isaac’s girlfriend died before the game started.

257. In Far Cry 3, there are several references to Abstergo that the hero Jason recognises, suggesting the game takes place in the same world as Assassin’s Creed.

258. 2001’s Ghost Recon was built around a fictional global crisis where Russian attacked, among other countries, Georgia and Ukraine.

259. Call Of Duty: Black Ops II has a Simpsons reference – a scattering of pink glazed donuts that can be found in a nuclear power plant.

261. In the original Alone In The Dark series the hero Edward Carnby’s inconsistent age between instalments was explained by saying it was a codename assigned to different people.

264. If you let Ashley Williams die in Mass Effect 1, her ghost appears briefly in Mass Effect 3.

265. There’s a 300 reference in TES V: Skyrim where you can find a sabre cat in a narrow passage stabbed in the head with a spear.

266. Alundra 2 came in a double-sized CD case because the manual was so big. There was only one game disc.

267. In Red Faction: Guerrilla, there’s a one-off game over screen if Alec Mason kills his brother Dan. It says “WTF? You killed your brother!!!”

268. Borderlands 2’s BNK-3R boss’ voice is actually a heavily processed recording of sound designer Joshua Davidson shouting about tea.

269. Hitman’s Agent 47 was redesigned to look more like voice actor David Bateson after he got the role. IO saw him in an adjacent sound booth on another job during auditions and asked him to try for the part.

270. In Dead Rising 2, the costume ‘Tattered Clothing’ is Simon Pegg’s clothing from Shaun Of The Dead.

271. Agent 47’s barcode as it appears in the Absolution reveal trailer can be scanned and takes you to the Amazon product listing for a ‘Drawstring Double Dong Dildo Bag in Starry Night Blue’.

272. In an early version of Dead Island, the Gender War skill, which gave the female character Purna extra damage against male enemies, was actually called ‘Feminist Whore’. When it was found in the code Techland apologised and promised to punish the developer responsible.

273. Resident Evil 2 only ever had seven zombies on-screen at any one time.

274. During Batman: Arkham Asylum’s development, one person spent two years just working on the cape.

275. In six months the total distance driven by players in Just Cause 2 was equal to three times the distance between Earth and Mars.

288. In Twisted Metal: Black, hidden messages from one of the characters imply the entire game is happening inside Needles Kane’s head.

289. Not only can you kill a MGS3 boss called The End by waiting a week for him to die of old age (or changing the clock), but he appears in an earlier level and can be sniped so the battle never happens.

290. A total of $9 trillion in loot was stolen in the Battlefield Hardline Beta.

291. Portal 2 originally featured no portals or GlaDOS.

292. The baby in Fallout 3 was voiced by director Todd Howard’s son.

293. At one point in development, God Of War’s cyclops had visible genitals because David Jaffe wanted them to appear more like wild animals.

296. Pac-Man was originally called Puck-Man until developers realised how easily that could be made into a bad word on the side of arcade cabinets.

Nine women have portrayed Lara Croft as a promotional model: Nathalie Cook (1996 to 1997), Rhona Mitra (1997 to 1998), Vanessa Demouy (1998), Nell McAndrew (1998 to 1999), Lara Weller (1999 to 2000), Lucy Clarkson (2000 to 2002), Jill de Jong (2002 to 2004), Karima Adebibe (2006 to 2008) and Alison Carroll (2008).

298. Shadow Of The Colossus was originally going to have 48 giants and concept art for many of those that were never featured has since been released.

299. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was called Tony Hawk’s Skateboarding in countries where ‘skating’ was more associated with ice skating.
